S/V Altair is a 1996 Shannon 43 Ketch, hull #41. Shannon Boat Company is based in Bristol, RI and was founded in 1975 by Walter Shulz, an iconic American yacht builder. Shannon sailboats are known for being extremely well-built, beautiful, and bluewater-capable. We were looking for a boat that could take us anywhere and we think we found that in Altair. She is a comfortable liveaboard with two cabins, two heads, and a spacious galley. With solar power we are comfortable living 'on-the-hook' for long periods of time, and we avoid staying in marinas whenever possible. She sails beautifully and we love the well-balanced ketch rig that minimizes heeling and provides us with a lot of different options for various conditions. We also travel with an 9' Dyer Dhow dinghy that can be rowed or driven with an electric motor.
